WELCOME AND LITURGY OF GATHERING
Leader: Reading of Psalm 119.1-8. This is the word of the Lord.
ALL: Thanks be to God.
Trinity is fostering a haven of belonging where wanderers and wonderers
gather to discover and embody the love of Jesus in the world.
COMMUNAL SINGING
For the Beauty of the Earth
For the beauty of the earth
For the glory of the skies
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.
For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night
Hill and vale and tree and flower
Sun and moon and stars of light.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.
For Thyself, best gift divine
To the world so freely given
For that great, great love of Thine
Peace on earth and joy in heaven.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.
God With Us
You've come
To bring peace
To be love
To be nearer to us
You've come
To bring life
To be light
To shine brighter in us
Oh Emmanuel
God with us
Our Deliverer
You are Savior
In Your presence we find our strength
Over everything
Our redemption
God with us
You are God with us
You've come
To be hope
To this world
For Your honor and name
You've come
To take sin
To bear shame
And to conquer the grave
You are here and
You are holy
We are standing
In Your glory
COMMUNITY CONFESSION
Leader: All of heaven and earth is yours, our God. The earth and all that is in it rests on your foundation. Your mighty works are all around us. Your righteousness, your justice and your steadfast love are revealed to us in your son, Jesus Christ. Your hand and arm are with us. Your presence with us, and your promise of faithfulness to us, are expressed in the work of the Holy Spirit.
ALL: Therefore, we praise you, our Lord God of Hosts. We confess, though, that we often depart from you, our God.
Leader: We confess that we have not sung of your steadfast love, or proclaimed your faithfulness.
ALL: Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
Leader: We confess that we have become alienated from our neighbors over our differences,
even making false distinctions between us.
ALL: Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
Leader: We confess that we have not always shared your good news and your justice with all people.
ALL: Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
Leader: Hear then Christ’s word of grace to us: ‘Your sins are forgiven.’
ALL: Thanks be to God!
BLESSING AND PASSING THE PEACE
Leader: The Lord be with you!
ALL: And also with you!
During this time we greet one another, recognizing that we are all a part of the body, as PreK-5th grade children are led to their ministry space. Younger children and youth remain, and are welcome, in the Gathering. Materials for toddlers are available and we understand that their presence means they will be heard, no need to worry about their vocal contributions.
SERMON NOTES
Finding Rhythm: Rhythms of Being: Mourning
What does the rhythm in today’s text look like for you/us today?
Where is grief showing up in our bodies and community?
How might we need to mourn as we head into the election this week?
Where do you need to experience new rhythms or have old rhythms disrupted?
Where might laughter, remembering, and crying bring us back to ourselves more full?
What is mourning teaching us?
What do you desire to be restored or made whole as you/we anticipate a time when cycles will come to an end and the life of beauty and harmony is actualized?
Where or how is God invading your/our grief with joy?
What have the saints who have come before us taught us and how might we carry on that faithful wisdom into our lives?
*Through small and large group conversations, we’ll be voicing what resonates with us and reflect that back to the group(s).
*For additional discussion prompts visit the series page here.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & LORD’S TABLE LITURGY
Leader: God you have been with us throughout the ages. You have bore witness to the ways in which the story of us – of all that has come into being – has been woven together piece by piece, life by life.
ALL: We recognize, today, that it is because of the saints who have gone before us, that we are. Those who have struggled for justice, who have given so that others may live more freely – we would not be, if not for them.
Leader: In remembrance and gratitude, we name the saints who hungered for righteousness and whose sacrifices have contributed to a more just society:
(community names individuals)
Leader: Because of those who have loved us – those who have nurtured us, embraced us, celebrated us, or supported us. We are because they were. In remembrance and gratitude, we name the saints who have shaped our lives and being.
(community names individuals)
Leader: We also hold in remembrance the ones whose lives were taken by injustice, the ones who never knew their own belovedness, the ones who passed on our faith, the ones who gave us art, gave us song, gave us poetry. We are because they were.
ALL: Like us, we know they were imperfect too. There is no life that is not messy and contradictory, often betraying the very justice and love we seek to embody. And yet, you, O God, promise that our labor to Love is never made in vain.
Leader: Help us to lean on the witness of those who have gone before us, drawing on the love, justice, community, and faith that weaves us together, generation after generation – past, present, and future.
ALL: With gratitude and in remembrance we pray, Amen.
Leader: Lord, as we remember Jesus’ stories of your realm, as we seek to care for him in our siblings, we seek to live that mystery we call faith:
ALL: Jesus died, so we might know your justice; Jesus was raised, so we might know your love; Jesus will come, so we will be gathered to you at last.
Leader: You have searched for us, Steadfast Love, and gathered us in the sacred space, where your Spirit is poured out upon the gifts of the bread and cup, and on your children gathered from every place where we strayed.
ALL: You feed us on the broken bread so, that strengthened we would go to care for the hungry and needy, to welcome the stranger and straggler, to bring healing to the hurting. You offer the cup of grace so, nourished with your love, we would go to offer the parched your living waters, to visit those held captive by fear, to offer a warm heart to the lonely.
Leader: The table of the Lord is open to all who seek to follow Jesus.

RESPONSE & OFFERING OF WORSHIP
The Offering Basket
Prayer requests may be posted in the Zoom chat (Zoom participants) or written and placed in the offering basket.
Be Thou My Vision
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art;
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true child;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heav’n’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

The Leadership Team is preparing to go through the next round of eldership beginning in January (for new elders to be onboarded in May). This timeline also gets the rotation back onto a more steady overlap in eldership terms, with another elder rolling off in May as well. More details on the next eldership process timeline, and the invitation to congregational participation in that process, are forthcoming. Michelle’s role as Treasurer is being shifted to Steve Edinger until officer roles are reestablished with new elders coming on in May of 2025. Any questions may be directed to members of the Leadership Team or to contact@indytrinity.org.
Equity Funds. Rolling submissions for 2024 Equity Funds are accepted in phases: through May 5th and now again through November 3rd. This form is to be used to submit proposals and taken to Community Conversations scheduled for November 10th. After this conversation, more solidified proposals (discerned through the larger group conversation) will then be taken to the Leadership Team for final disbursement requests. We ask that you use this form to prepare for presenting at a Community Conversation or if you are unable to attend the Equity Funds conversation, the proposal will be taken to the group in your absence. If you have a question about Equity Funds, please send an email to contact@indytrinity.org.

GATHERING RESOURCES AND INFORMATION
Guide and Service Dog Training. As we welcome Guide/Service Dogs at Gatherings, please familiarize yourself with resources under on these two websites https://www.guidedogs.com/resources/blindness-and-guide-dog-etiquette and https://www.guidedogsofamerica.org/best-practices-when-around-a-service-dog/ and discuss main points with those in your household. If you or anyone in your household has severe allergies or any fear of dogs, etc. please contact us (contact@indytrinity.org) so we can do our best to keep Gathering spaces welcoming for all.
Health Guidelines. Gatherings can look differently according to the needs of our leaders and community if health concerns take effect. We ask that everyone remain flexible if and/or when this is the case. If a Gathering is going to be virtual, we will send an email by 8am on Sunday, or earlier. If you are experiencing fever, coughs, or other clear signs of illness, please remain home and join the Gathering via Zoom. If your symptoms are not highly contagious or you are unsure about exposing others, please wear a mask. Specifically, if you have been exposed to or have symptoms of Covid-19 or the Flu, you can follow the guidelines from the CDC to determine what are your best precautions to take.
Land Acknowledgement. We acknowledge that the land on which we gather for worship was stolen from Native peoples, who were driven out of the area and of their native lands by genocide, force (through broken treaties and laws imposed upon their nation), and systematic disposession. The Myaamiaki, Kaskaskia, and Kickapoo peoples* and their sovereign Nations have cared for, and are deeply a part of, this land - past, present, and future. Visual Description Guide. To help more of our community feel welcome and included, please take a moment to consider this card. This will help our visually impaired and blind attendees get a sense of who is present with them. Each section is optional to share with the group, so please provide only what you're comfortable sharing.
Gathering Hosting Schedule. As an act of service and care, please join staff, leaders, and others from your parish in hosting Sunday Gatherings. These are great times to connect and welcome others to converse while serving as well. Arrival at 9:45am is great, 9:30am is super helpful for assisting with audio equipment and/or indoor set up. Cleaning up on the back end should only take 10-15 minutes. The hosting checklist is in the Trinity office. Thank you!
